Archives and Special Collections

Owing to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, and for the safety of our community, staff, and researchers, Adelphi University Archives and Special Collections will be operating with reduced opening hours for the Fall 2020 semester. UASC will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11am-3pm beginning on August 31, 2020. To adhere to the recommended social distancing requirements, appointments will be required for all researchers and only one researcher at a time will be permitted on-site. UASC asks that on-site visit requests be submitted at least 2 days in advance. Please do not visit UASC unless you have received a confirmation email from us.

All visitors will be required to wear masks per University policy and researchers will be asked to wash their hands thoroughly before any material can be handled. No on-site instructional classes will be held in UASC for the Fall 2020 term. We will, however, work with professors to find alternative methods of integrating primary sources and rare materials into their classes.

UASC staff will continue to serve students, faculty, the Adelphi community, and outside researchers remotely by responding to emailed requests. UASC invites all to explore our online resources by visiting uascdigital.adelphi.edu and to view the online finding aids for our collections at https://libguides.adelphi.edu/az.php?t=30106.

University Archives contains records about the history and operations of the university. It also contains photographs, newspapers, yearbooks, and memorabilia.

Special Collections includes library materials in various formats, which are separately housed in a secure environment to protect and preserve rare, valuable, or fragile items. Also included are thematic collections, such as the Illustrated Children’s Literature Collection and the Panama Canal Collection.

We also have Digital Collections, available via our website. Here you can find images, articles, maps, and other material from both Archives and Special Collections.
