      How to Return Books

  • Lost or Damaged Materials

    • Lost Materials
Any library material that is lost must be reported immediately. Any library material not returned within a semester after the due date will be declared lost. The borrower will be responsible for the cost of its replacements. The charge is the cost of the item, a $15 processing fee, and the $100 maximum overdue charges. For more information, see applicable student loan rules (above).

If an item is found and returned after payment has been made, an adjusted refund is given if a replacement has not been ordered. The adjusted refund is the price of the book and the processing fee.

NOTE: Failure to return library materials or to clear outstanding fines may result in the holding of official transcripts, or diplomas, or the revoking of library privileges.

      Damaged or Mutilated Materials
If library material is returned in such poor condition that it can no longer be circulated, the borrower is responsible for replacing the material. The charge to the borrower is the cost of the material plus a $15 processing fee.

  • Book Recalls

    • All books are subject to recall after 14 days. When a book has been recalled, the borrower will receive a Recall Notice via email, and the book must be returned by the new due date. Charges for overdue recalled books are $1 per day.

  • Laptop and iPad Loans

    • Adelphi students may borrow Laptops and iPads from the Access Services Desk located on the first floor of the Swirbul Library.

Students must show a valid Adelphi ID card when borrowing equipment. All equipment must not leave the building and is due back 30 minutes prior to the Access Services desk closing.

The Access Services Desk will neither deliver nor pick up any loaned equipment. If parts of equipment—such as cables—are lost or damaged, borrowers are responsible for replacing them in a timely manner. The borrower is responsible to pay the replacement price if the equipment is stolen or damaged.

      Overdue Fines
There is a charge of $25 per day from the time the item was due. The maximum overdue charge for each item is $500. Students are responsible for any replacement costs.
