Welcome to the DIGITAL COLLECTIONS of the Adelphi University Archives and Special Collections (UASC). This resource is your portal to unique and rare digitized materials from our collections. Digital collections support the teaching and research mission of Adelphi University. By facilitating access to digital collections and information, UASC offers research value to Adelphi faculty, staff and students, as well as scholars at large.
Launching in fall 2008 with two collections (described below), the DIGITAL COLLECTIONS is a constantly growing collection of resources, which features materials such as photographs, newspapers, posters, pamphlets, fliers, correspondence, manuscripts, and other items. In the future, additional selected content will be included in the original two collections, and other collections will be added.
Ruth St Denis Digital Collection
This collection consists of materials digitized from the Ruth St. Denis Collection.
St. Denis (1879-1968) was a pioneer of modern dance and founded the Adelphi Dance Department in 1938.
- The Ruth St Denis Digital Collection includes a selection of digitized materials, including correspondence, the Adelphi Bulletin published the year the Adelphi Dance Department was founded, and a collection of beautiful portraits by Marcus Blechman.
- Plans for future digitization include posters, fliers, programs, unpublished manuscripts and choreographies; and other materials from St. Denis's solo career and the Denishawn School and Dance Company, which was established by Ruth St. Denis and her husband and fellow dancer and choreographer Ted Shawn
The Adelphi Digital Yearbook Collection: The Oracles
This collection consists of materials digitized from University Archives and covers the Oracle yearbooks from 1904 to 2006.
- The Adelphi Digital Yearbook Collection now includes Oracles from the years 1959-1973, as these years are in the high demand from our patrons.
- Digitization of all the yearbooks to date is expected to take place over the next 4 years.
Other Digitized and Historical Materials from Adelphi University Archives and Special Collections
Adelphi newspapers from 1921 to 2003 are available to the Adelphi community through the university intranet ( http://dtsearch/ ) but will soon be available to everyone on the World Wide Web. Presently, they are published on a separate platform but, in due course, will be added to the DIGITAL COLLECTIONS. Additionally, plans are in place to digitize Adelphi newspapers to date. |
