Circulating Books
There is a grace period of three days for overdue circulating books. After three days there is a charge of $0.20 for the first 10 days, then $1.00 a day thereafter. The maximum overdue charge for each circulating book is $100.00.

ConnectNY Book Loans
Overdue fines for ConnectNY books are a $1.00 per day for each book, with a maximum overdue charge of $100.

DVDs and Video Cassettes
There is a grace period of one day. After one day, there is a charge of $1.00 per day from the time the item was due. The maximum overdue charge for each item is $50.00. An additional fine of $1.00 per day will be added if the item has been recalled when the item is overdue.

Two-Hour Reserve
There is a grace period of one hour for reserve material. After the one hour, there is a charge of $0.50 per hour for the first 2 hours, then $1.00 an hour thereafter. The maximum overdue charge for each Reserve Item is $100.00.

Overnight, Two-Day and Seven-Day Reserve
There is a charge of $1.00 per day from the time the item was due. The maximum overdue charge for each reserve item is $100.00.

How to Return Books
Books may be returned to the circulation desk at Swirbul, to the book slots in the Library, or to the circulation desks of the other University Libraries (Hauppauge and Manhattan). When Swirbul Library is closed, books may be returned to the outside book drop.
  Lost Materials
Any library material that is lost must be reported immediately. Any library material not returned within a semester after the due date will be declared lost. The borrower will be responsible for the cost of its replacements. The charge is the cost of the item, a $15 processing fee, and the $15 maximum overdue charges. If an item is found and returned after payment has been made, an adjusted refund is given if a replacement has not been ordered. The adjusted refund is the price of the book and the processing fee.

NOTE: Failure to return library materials or to clear outstanding fines may result in the holding of official transcripts, or diplomas, or the revoking of library privileges.


Damaged or Mutilated Materials
If library material is returned in such poor condition that it can no longer be circulated, the borrower is responsible for replacing the material. The charge to the borrower is the cost of the material plus a $15 processing fee.

  All books are subject to recall after 14 days. When a book has been recalled, the borrower will receive a Recall Notice via email, and the book must be returned by the new due date. Charges for overdue recalled books are $1.00 per day.
