Overdue Connect NY Books
Overdue fines for ConnectNY books are a $1.00 per day for each book, with a maximum overdue charge of $100.

Overdue Recalled Books
If a book you have in your possession has been recalled, you will be informed of a new due date. There is a charge of $1.00 per day for each day past the new due date that the book is not returned.

How to Return Books
Books may be returned to the circulation desk at Swirbul, to the book slots in the Library, or to the circulation desks of the other University Libraries (Science, Hauppauge, and Manhattan). When Swirbul Library is closed, books may be returned to the outside book drop.

Lost Materials
Any library material that is lost must be reported immediately. Any library material not returned within a semester after the due date will be declared lost. The borrower will be responsible for the cost of its replacements. The charge is the cost of the item and a $15 processing fee.

If an item is found and returned after payment has been made, an adjusted refund is given if a replacement has not been ordered. The adjusted refund is the price of the book and the processing fee.

NOTE: Failure to return library materials or to clear outstanding fines may result in the revoking of library privileges.

Damaged or Mutilated Materials
If library material is returned in such poor condition that it can no longer be circulated, the borrower is responsible for replacing the material. The charge to the borrower is the cost of the material plus a $15 processing fee.

 

If you need a book that has been checked out for at least 14 days already, you may request for that book to be recalled. Visit the Access Services Desk to recall a book currently on loan.

If you are in possession of a book that has been recalled, you will receive a Recall Notice in your Adelphi University email account. At that point, the book must be returned by the new due date. Charges for overdue recalled books are $1.00 per day for each day past the new due date.
 

Interlibrary Services
Faculty can use request material by completing an interlibrary loan request form.

Intralibrary (Intercampus) Services
Using ILLiad, faculty can receive next-day delivery to Swirbul Library for materials held in the Annex storage facility, and twice a week from the Hauppauge Center Library and Manhattan Center Library.

Reserve Services
Articles, book chapters, streaming multimedia, and syllabi can be put on reserve and electronic reserve (E-Reserve) for students.

Library Instruction
To ensure the most productive use of the library and its resources, the library provides instruction in effective methods of conducting research that also encourage critical thinking. Professor Eloise Bellard, instruction librarian, schedules and coordinates these classes with the participation of the entire library faculty.

To schedule library instruction, faculty should complete the library instruction form or contact Professor Bellard at 516.877.3584 or via email at bellard@adelphi.edu.

The form should be submitted at least three weeks in advance of the requested date and an alternate date should be included. The session should be scheduled after students have been given their first assignment.

Library instruction sessions are generally not scheduled during the first week of the semester.
