Access Services: Circulation, Reserve, and Non-Print Media
The Access Services Desk is located at the entrance to the Swirbul Library. All materials are checked in and out of the library here.
Materials placed on reserve are listed in ALICAT and may be retrieved by professor's name, course title, or course number from the Access Services Desk. Faculty may complete the Swirbul Library Reserve Services form in order to place an item on reserve.
The Non-Print Media Collection, also located at the Access Services Desk, includes films, VHS and DVD video recordings, laser discs, software, audio cassettes, audio compact discs, filmstrips, slides, and CD-ROMS, many with accompanying guides. These materials are available for circulation to the Adelphi community.
Media resources are fully cataloged and can be accessed via ALICAT by subject or keyword. ALICAT also includes the item descriptions as well as the type of equipment that is required for that media. On-site playback or viewing can be arranged for individuals or groups.
Arrangements can be made to deliver and pick-up audio-visual equipment on campus. Assistance is also provided for use of microforms and reader-printers.
Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Services
ILL/Document Delivery
helps patrons to obtain resources not held by the Adelphi Libraries, but available for lending or reproduction by other institutions. To request an item that is not in the library's collection, you may fill out an Interlibrary Loan Form.
Sager Lab
The Sager Lab, located on the second floor of Swirbul Library, near the Reference Desk, is dedicated to electronic research. Adelphi students, faculty, and staff may access more than 130 databases in the various subject areas of Adelphi's curriculum in the Sager Lab.
Periodicals
The Periodicals Department has current subscriptions to 1000 journals and newspapers. Newspapers can be obtained at the Circulation Desk. Journals from the year 2000 to the present are located on the first floor; older journals through the year 1999 are on level C.
The non-circulating collection includes bound volumes and microform holdings. Microform materials and machines are handled on a self-service basis.
Periodicals not in the University Libraries collection may be ordered through Interlibrary Loan Services.
Fine/Performing Arts
The Fine/Performing Arts Collection includes circulating books on art, cinema, dance, music, photography, television and theater, as well as music scores. The collection is shelved in alphabetical sequence with all other circulating books, with the exception of musical scores which, due to their size, are shelved adjacent to level 3S.
Curriculum Materials Center
The Curriculum Materials Center (CMC) provides sample educational materials in all formats to support the teacher education curriculum of the School of Education. As such, the CMC supports the School’s instructional programs, particularly in the areas of elementary and adolescent education, art education, bilingual education, ESL, special education, literacy, health studies, and physical education.
Located on level 5S, the CMC consists of a variety of instructional materials for students, staff, and faculty, as well as teachers in the community.

Government Documents
Since 1966, Swirbul Library has served as a selective federal depository library. Adelphi has the most extensive collection on Long Island of documents issued by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Justice Department, and the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as titles from many federal agencies. Current library holdings include almost 200,000 titles.
Selected government documents are cataloged and can be accessed through ALICAT. The Government Documents Collection, in both paper and microfiche formats, is located on level 3S. In addition, some government documents are included in the main reference and circulating collections. Reference assistance in the use of government documents is available at the Main Reference Desk.
