Special Collections

Welcome to Special Collections

University Archives serves as the primary repository for records and information relating to the history, development, organization, and operations of Adelphi University and any of its offices, divisions, schools, or departments. In addition to official records of the University, the collection includes many other materials published or created by the University and its employees, including The Oracle (the Adelphi yearbook), The Delphian and other Adelphi newspapers, as well as items that originated outside the University, such as newspaper and journal articles about Adelphi. University Archives also houses manuscripts, graphic materials, audio-visual materials, photographs, electronic records, and artifacts.

Adelphi Authors Collection
The Adelphi Authors Collection has almost 400 titles by faculty, administration, alumni, staff and students.
Adelphi Buildings
Ever wonder what Adelphi looked like 50 years ago? This image collection includes architectural photographs, drawings and maps of many of the Adelphi buildings we know today.
Adelphiana Collection
The Adelphiana Collection encompasses over 300 cataloged titles relating to the history of the University
Americana Collection
The Americana Collection of over 1400 titles includes books, pamphlets, newspapers and more covering U.S. history from colonial times to the present.
Adelphi Newspapers
This extensive collection of newspapers from 1921-2003 features many early Adelphi publications, as well as the University’s current newspaper, the Delphian.
Barbara Andres Collection
The Barbara Andres Collection contains materials from different stages of Andres’s career, particularly her relationship with Ruth St. Denis.
Blake Collection
The Hugo and Florentina Leipniker William Blake Collection was established by Florentina Caras Leipniker '07.
Blodgett Collection
The Frank D. Blodgett Collection contains materials relating to his 23 years as president of Adelphi College.
Children's Illustrated Literature Collection
Launched by the Friends of the Adelphi Library, the Children's Illustrated Literature Collection focuses on the Golden Age of Children's Book Illustration (1860-1930s) and illustrated literature from other periods.
Cobbett Collection
The C. Rexford Davis William Cobbett Collection has about 400 cataloged titles on the English parliamentarian, pamphleteer, and radical William Cobbett (1763-1835).
Cuala Press Collection
The Cuala Press Collection has over 100 titles of poetry and includes plays, broadside ballad sheets, music, and ephemera printed by Dun Emer Press and Cuala Press.
Dakin Collection
The Dr. Henry Drysdale Dakin Collection consists of science titles from the libraries of Dakin (biochemist, 1880-1952) and Dr. Christian A. Herter (physician and biochemist, 1865-1910)
DePol Collection
The John DePol Collection includes beautifully illustrated books, prints, ephemera, and secondary sources by and about an exemplary practitioner of wood engraving.
Expatriate Collection
The Expatriate Collection includes over 200 titles by and related to American expatriate writers such as Gertrude Stein, Alice B. Toklas, and T. S. Eliot.
Hauptmann Collection
The Siegfried H. Muller Gerhart Hauptmann Collection contains about 250 titles and papers by and about Gerhart Hauptmann (1862-1946).
Hone Collection
The Helene and Josephine Lewinsohn William Hone Collection includes over 500 published titles and over 300 manuscript items by, about, and associated with William Hone (1780-1842).
Kraus-Boelte Early Childhood Education Collection
The Kraus-Boelte Early Childhood Education Collection honors Maria Kraus-Boelte (1836-1918), who helped create kindergarten and the profession of kindergarten teaching in the U.S.
Loening Collection
Grover Cleveland Loening (1888-1976), aeronautical engineer and author, was the first person awarded an aeronautical engineering degree in the United States.
Long Island Collection
The Long Island Collection contains over 350 titles of local historical interest, including town records, community histories, and material on local Indian tribes.
McMillan Collection
The Robert R. McMillan Political and Presidential Letters and Memorabilia Collection consists of material related to his political career..
Modern Chapbook Collection
The Modern Chapbook Collection consists primarily of poetry chapbooks but also includes broadsides and book-lengthy volumes from different presses.
Morley Collection
The Christopher Morley Collection includes over 250 novels, poetry, essays, plays, and printed ephemera relating to Christopher Morley (1890-1957).
New York City Collection
The New York City Collection has over 240 titles, including monographs and records, with an emphasis on New York City in the 19th century.
New York State Collection
The New York State Collection contains over 140 titles pertaining to the State that focus on the its culture and history.
Oracle Yearbooks
Take a walk down memory lane as you turn the pages of our Oracle yearbooks. They date from 1904-2012 and are all about students, faculty and administration, activities, clubs, sports and campus events.
Ormont Literary Collection
The Louis R. Ormont Literary Collection focuses on Dr. Ormont’s literary career as a playwright and includes manuscripts, academic papers, play programs, and more.
Ormont Psychology Collection
The Louis R. Ormont Psychology Collection consists largely of his publications on group therapy and also includes handwritten notes, research materials, and more.
Ornstein Collection
The Aimee Ornstein Memorial Library of Banking and Money Management has about 100 Special Collections titles on the early history of banking in the United States.
Panama Canal Collection
The Robert R. McMillan Panama Canal Collection includes over 80 books in addition to papers, photographs, and memorabilia.
Rare Book Collection
The Rare Book Collection contains about 2000 rare, expensive, fragile, and other special titles not shelved in the main stacks.
Ruth St. Denis Collection
This collection consists primarily of books and manuscripts of Ruth St. Denis (1879-1968), the founder of the dance department at Adelphi.
Small Press Collection
The Donald V. L. Kelly Small Press Collection gathers limited edition and letterpress publications, facsimile editions, related examples of fine printing, and secondary sources to support research.
Spanish Civil War Collection
The Sandor Voros Spanish Civil War collection contains materials directly related to the Spanish Civil War and offers insight into the life of Voros.
Stoelzer Collection
The Richard Stoelzer Chamber Music Collection consists of musical scores, manuscripts, and a number of rare stringed musical instruments used by Stoelzer’s chamber group.
Whitman Collection
Former Adelphi Professor Emory Holloway (1885-1977), author of Whitman: An Interpretation in Narrative, provided the core of The Walt Whitman Collection.
Woodruff Collection
The Hugh Allen Ward and Winifred Alling Ward Keith Collection of the Papers of Timothy L. Woodruff (1858-1913) covers early 20th century New York and U.S. and the early history of Adelphi College.
